It started with a D.

In February of Year 13, Rayan was sitting on a D in A-Level Economics. Not a knowledge problem, as it turned out. He could explain any concept on the specification out loud and still could not convert it into marks on paper, because nobody had ever shown him what the mark scheme was actually paying for.

The fix was to stop revising content and start reading examiner reports, mark schemes and past papers as the primary text. What does a full-mark chain of analysis look like? What separates a level 3 evaluation from a level 4? Where do examiners say, every single year, that candidates throw marks away?

He finished with an A*. Same student, same content, different target.

Meridian is that process turned into a teaching method, run with Izaan Abdullah across Maths and Further Maths as well. It is not a claim that every student goes from a D to an A*. It is a claim about where tutoring should aim, which is at the mark scheme rather than at the textbook.

Four rules every session runs on.

We read the examiner reports

Pearson publishes, every year, exactly what candidates got wrong and why. We read every report for our papers and teach against the recurring failures. Most students never open one, and most tutors don't either.

We understand the spec

Not "we cover the syllabus". Every session maps to numbered specification points, so a student always knows what has been taught, what hasn't, and what remains between now and the exam.

Mark scheme before content

We teach the shape of a full-mark answer first, then the material that fills it. A student should be able to look at a question and know what each move is worth before writing anything.

Resources we write ourselves

Question banks, chains of analysis and worked solutions written by us, for this specification. No reheated textbook PDFs, and nothing generated and left unchecked.

The credential that matters is not the university on the profile. It is the grade in the exact specification being taught, achieved recently enough that the papers haven't changed underneath it.

Izaan Abdullah

Co-founder · Mathematics lead

Reads Mathematics at the University of Warwick. Teaches Edexcel Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A-Level and GCSE, and leads TMUA preparation. Sessions are built around method-mark discipline and timed accuracy rather than working more questions more slowly.

He writes the Maths side of the resource bank: worked solutions annotated with where each mark sits, which is a different document from a worked solution with the answer at the bottom.

How we work

Things worth knowing before you enquire.

Online only

Sessions run over video with an iPad and Apple Pencil mirrored to the screen, so students watch working appear line by line. Everything written in the hour is sent over afterwards. Online is not a compromise here, it is how the marked-script teaching actually works.

Edexcel only

Specification knowledge is the product. Question stems, mark scheme wording and examiner report complaints are board-specific and don't transfer. A tutor covering four boards knows none of them at the depth that changes a grade.

We will tell you if you don't need us

The first call is free and there is no obligation attached to it. If the issue is workload, attendance, or the wrong subject choice, tutoring won't fix it and we will say so rather than take the booking. After roughly six sessions we review honestly against where the student started.

Small on purpose

We take a limited number of students each cycle because both of us teach every session ourselves. There is no agency, no matching algorithm, and nobody you haven't spoken to.
